Angel of Udine
Give a souvenir of the angel of Udine Castle

Angel of Udine is the logo created by AlgoNatural (www.algonatural.it) to promote Udine and allow tourists, and the many Friulians who live far away, to have a memory of our city.
Algonatural, remaining faithful to its mission of promoting ethical and sustainable fashion, offers it reproduced exclusively on eco-sustainable products, such as organic cotton t-shirts and polo shirts, sweatshirts made from recycled fabric, ceramic or steel mugs and water bottles.
The drawing was created by the Udine artist Simone Mestroni (see also the initiative “city of poetry” on www.simonemestroni.it)
History
The angel of Udine, known by the Friulians as the “angel of the castle”, depicts the Archangel Gabriel and is connected to the dedication of the Udine cathedral to Maria Annunziata.
It is an anemoscopic statue that always indicates, with its index finger, the direction of the wind, from its height of over 40 meters above the castle hill.
The first wooden version dates back to the 16th century and was destroyed by lightning in 1776. It was rebuilt the following year in copper and stands 5 meters tall. In 2011, it was restored, and its wind vane rotation mechanism was reinstated thanks to the sponsorship of Danieli di Buttrio.
